Natuto ng Disiplina sa SPES: Now an Electric Company Supervisor

Nothing beats a good start in life.

Such was the principle that guided Alberto Cruz Aceret, the OIC-Supervisor of the Transmission and Distibution Division of the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) in Dingras, Ilocos Norte.

For two consecutive years, the 30-year-old Electrical Engineer was a beneficiary of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES), as he always looked for ways to help his farmer parents send him to school.

He worked as service crew at a famous Chinese fast food chain in Laoag City, where his employment period of 45 days was always extended for another 15 days because of his good performance.

“Dahil sa SPES, maaga akong natuto ng disiplina, kumpiyansa sa sarili at nakaipon ng karanasan sa trabaho.  Lahat ng mga ito ay napakinabangan ko sa paghahanap ng trabaho at pagtupad ng mga pangarap ko,” Aceret narrated.

Starting as substation engineer in 2009, Aceret worked his way through the top to get the position that he has now.

The SPES is an employment bridging program implemented by the Department of Labor and Employment to assist poor but deserving students in completing their education through their employment during summer and/or Christmas vacation.

In Region I, some 6,097 student-workers benefited from the program in 2016 and around 4,238 will be assisted in 2017.  END/Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez
