“Mas kumikitang kabuhayan sa bawat padyak.”

Such was the remark of thirty-five-year-old Ferdinand Bodomo of Mangatarem, Pangasinan after receiving Negosyo sa Kariton (Negokart) assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment-Regional Office No. I.

Ferdinand, or “Poks”, as he is fondly called, was born armless and with growth abnormality.

But as they say, “the only disability is a bad attitude.”  Despite his physical limitations, Poks strives to be productive.

“Tunay nga pong hindi hadlang ang pagkakaroon ng kapansanan para maging kapakipakinabang at patuloy na mabuhay nang marangal.  Ang bumigay lang po ay ang aking bisikleta na dating ginagamit sa pagtitinda,” he added jokingly.

On January 17, the DOLE-Alaminos Field Office turned over vending carts, accessory tools and raw materials worth P900 thousand to Poks and 59 other ambulant vendors.

Poks’s five-year vending activity has helped support his family and the education of his sister who is now an elementary school teacher.

He is optimistic about earning more income because of his more functional vending cart and additional tools from the project.
