Region 1’s Labor Day job fairs hire 413

Some 413 applicants went home employed after participating in the Labor Day job and business fairs conducted by the DOLE-RO I and its partners on May 1.

Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra said the number is 23 percent of the 1,781 jobseekers who trooped to the job fairs held at the Robinsons San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte; CB Mall Urdaneta City and Pangasinan PESO compound, Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Combined, the job and business fairs yielded 124 local and overseas employers offering 19,350 vacancies.

“We are happy that our continuing partnership with the Public Employment Service Offices, employers and other government agencies has resulted again in the employment of our jobseekers,” he said.

The Regional Director said those who were hired on the spot landed as call center agents, CCTV operators, production operators, office staff, cashiers, property specialists, HR assistant, credit investigators, among others.

This year’s theme, “Matatag na Kabuhayan at Trabaho Tungo sa Progresibong Pagbabago”, underscores the DOLE’s role in the achievement of decent work and economic growth as enshrined in the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan.  The said concept is a blueprint in achieving full employment at 5% unemployment rate by creating 7.5 million jobs mainly in key employment generating sectors (KEGS) specifically in the manufacturing, agri-business, construction, tourism, IT-BPM, transportation and logistics, and retail trade.

One-stop employment and legal services were also made available by agencies such as POEA, OWWA, TESDA, PRC, NCMB, NLRC, RTWBP, SSS, Philhealth and Pag-IBIG for more comprehensive services to job seekers, new graduates and workers re-entering the labor market.

Director Lacambra said monitoring of post-job fair results will be done by the DOLE 1 in cooperation with the PESOs to find out if there are more applicants who will successfully pass further interviews or tests from employers and eventually land in jobs. END/Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez
