San Gabriel’s,175 farmers get P630-K livelihood aid from DOLE-RO I

The Department of Labor and Employment-Regional Office I yesterday released P630 thousand worth of livelihood assistance for the two projects of 175 farmers of San Gabriel, La Union.

P330 thousand worth of feeds and fertilizers were provided to 38 women farmers of barangay Lon-oy for their Agricultural Supply project.  On the other hand, two rice mills worth P300 thousand were given to 137 farmers of barangays Apayao and Lacong for their Rice Milling project.

Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra turned over the equipment and farm supplies to the beneficiaries in the presence of Sangguniang Bayan member Divina Velasco at the town’s covered court.  Also present were DOLE-La Union Field Office Head Agnes Aguinaldo, Labor and Employment Officer Janet Mendoza and some municipal employees.

Director Lacambra said the projects will help augment the beneficiaries’ income through new livelihood activities and employment.

“Manage your projects well to ensure their success.  Only one percent depends on the DOLE assistance; the remaining 99 percent must come from you,” he told the beneficiaries.

San Gabriel is a far-flung mountainous municipality, and its geographical attributes post economic and development challenges to its residents.  END/Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez
