DOLE-RO I grants P2 million livelihood assistance to marginalized workers in Ilocos Norte

Jenine Dacuycuy, 51 years old, hopes to never leave home again to work in a foreign land.  In a few months, her new livelihood will be earning to help augment her family’s income. 

Now the president of Siwawer OFW Association of Vintar, Ilocos Norte, Jenine previously worked as domestic helper in Singapore, Hong Kong and Brunei. 

Jenine is one of the 324 OFW returnees, farmers, persons with disabilities and voc-tech graduates in Ilocos Norte who will benefit from the P2,135,000 worth of livelihood assistance released recently by the Department of Labor and Employment-Regional Office I. 

Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra turned over the livelihood checks to the local government units of Vintar and Laoag on May 24 and Currimao on May 25 to fund various projects of the marginalized workers. 

For the municipality of Vintar, the amount of P500 thousand will be used for the goat raising project of 50 OFW returnees and their dependents.  

Laoag City received P500 thousand total assistance for the starter kits for electrical installation maintenance, beauty care and small engine/motorcycle servicing of 33 TESDA-certified graduates and provision of water pump for 141 farmers. 

A total of P1,135,000 was released to the municipality of Currimao for the cattle raising and goat raising projects of 50 farmers and 50 PWDs, respectively. 

“We aim to uplift the living conditions of our beneficiaries by boosting their existing livelihood or providing them alternative source of income,” Director Lacambra said. 

 

He said the DOLE livelihood program offers package of services such as provision of start-up capital in the form of equipment, tools or jigs and raw materials; trainings; advisory and networking services and social insurance.  END/Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez
