DOLE-RO I releases P2 million worth of livelihood assistance for Ilocos Sur

Some 160 marginalized workers in Ilocos Sur recently received P2 million worth of livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment-Regional Office I to help them engage in income augmenting entrepreneurial activities.

DOLE-RO I Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra awarded the checks amounting to P1 million each for the Negosyo sa Kariton project of 60 ambulant vendors in Narvacan and for the Bigasan ng Bayan of the 100 Municipal Federation of Rural Improvement Club members in Sto. Domingo.

Director Lacambra said the assistance which is part of the DOLE Kabuhayan program is intended to ensure sustainable sources of additional income for the beneficiaries.

He said the Negokart will provide the ambulant vendors with services that will enable them to increase, upgrade and diversify their products or services and market these with greater number of buyers or customers.

The Bigasan, on the other hand, will engage the MFRIC members in the buying and selling of quality rice at lower price, placing them at an advantage over other similar businesses in the municipality.

“The Kabuhayan program is one of the DOLE’s contributions in the anti-poverty drive of the government.  The enthusiasm and commitment of the beneficiaries will spell the difference as to how much income they can derive from their projects,” the Regional Director said.

The local government unit of Narvacan funded the Negokart projects of eight ambulant vendors, putting the total beneficiaries to 68; while the LGU of Sto. Domingo provided for the business permits and stall rentals of the Bigasan project.  END/Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez
