At first half of 2017, DOLE-RO I’s anti-endo drive bears fruits

The Department of Labor and Employment-Regional Office No. I continues to stay on track in its intensified anti-ENDO drive six months into calendar year 2017.

DOLE-RO I Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra bared that for the first semester, nine establishments which were assessed and subjected to mandatory conference have already regularized 101 workers.

“Inspection of establishments is continuously being conducted to ensure their compliance with general labor and occupational safety and health standards, putting primary importance on workers’ security of tenure,” he said.

The Regional Director said the advocacy efforts in the region have encouraged contractors to religiously comply with Department Order 174 issued by Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III in March this year to prohibit illegal forms of contractualization.

“From June to July, 11 contractors have registered under D.O. 174, indicating their willingness and capacity to fully respect the right to security of tenure of their workers and their other fundamental rights,” he said.

Some 2,053 workers stand to benefit from the compliant contractors, which are engaged by 94 principals, he added.

The elimination of all illegitimate forms of contractualization by the end of 2017 is among the primary thrusts of the DOLE under Secretary Bello III. END/Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez
