V-Day job fairs score 302 HOTS

This love month, some 302 jobseekers landed jobs when they participated in job fairs instead of going out on Valentine’s date.

According to the Department of Labor and Employment-Regional Office I, job fairs were conducted by Urdaneta City on February 9, Dagupan City and Anda in Pangasinan on February 14 and province of La Union on February 20 to use the “love season” as opportunity to provide job facilitation services to jobseekers.

The job fairs were initiated by the said local government units’ Public Employment Services Office (PESO) in partnership with the DOLE-RO I, local and overseas employers and other government agencies.

“Job found us,” quipped Kim Bucay, 22 years old, after he and his partner Jessica Madronio, 21 years old, were hired on the spot as sales clerks at the Urdaneta City jobs fair.

Kim and Jessica are both college undergraduates who are parents to a three-year-old boy.

“Thank you to the job fair organizers.  Our new job is the best Valentine’s Day gift,” Jessica said.

Delaila Calicdan, on the other hand, landed as cashier at a known supermarket in Alaminos City when she participated in the Anda jobs fair.

“I am so happy because my last employment was four months ago in a fast food chain,” she told.

Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra, citing reports from field offices in Rosales, Dagupan, Alaminos and La Union, said a total of 77 employers joined the job fairs to offer 6,092 local and overseas jobs.

“I thank and commend the LGUs and PESOs of Urdaneta City, Dagupan City, Anda and Province of La Union for their creativity in implementing our job search services.  You have shown that our jobseekers and workers are a priority at all times,” Director Lacambra said.

The jobs fair in Dagupan City even provided Valentine’s Day treats to jobseekers such as free dinner date, freebies and relationship counseling.  END/Arly Sta.
