Jobs, business opportunities highlight 2018 Labor Day celebration

Jobseekers and workers have the option whether to apply for job vacancies or venture into livelihood.

This was the statement of DOLE-RO I Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra as he announced that this year’s Labor Day celebration will once again highlight jobs and livelihood opportunities.

He said the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) - a collaboration with the DTI on employment generation and facilitation - will be adopted to provide broader options for jobseekers and workers in deciding which path to follow.

Three job and business fairs will be held on May 1 at three venues, namely, Robinsons Place, San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte; Urdaneta City Cultural and Sports Center, Urdaneta City; and Pangasinan PESO, Lingayen, Pangasinan.

This year’s theme, “Pagpupugay sa Manggagawang Pilipino: Dangal ng Lahi, Kabalikat sa Progresibong Pagbabago” underscores the important role of Filipino workers in the overall development framework of the present administration.

The TNK is a blueprint in achieving full employment at 5% unemployment rate by creating 7.5 million jobs mainly in key employment generating sectors (KEGS) specifically in the manufacturing, agri-business, construction, tourism, IT-BPM, transportation and logistics, and retail trade.

One-stop employment and legal services will also be made available by agencies such as POEA, OWWA, TESDA, PRC, NCMB, NLRC, RTWBP, SSS, Philhealth and Pag-IBIG for more comprehensive services to job seekers, new graduates and workers re-entering the labor market.  END/Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez
