First in the Philippines: Job Fair on Wheels launched in Pangasinan

Amidst heavy rain, the Job Fair on Wheels of the Provincial Government of Pangasinan was launched in Umingan town on July 18, making job opportunities more accessible to jobseekers in the remote area.

Some 251 jobseekers participated in the mobile job fair project which is another novelty initiative of the Pangasinan Provincial Government through the Provincial Employment Services Office (PESO) in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment-Regional Office I and the local government unit of Umingan.

“Congratulations to the provincial government of Pangasinan led by Governor Amado Espino III for this another laudable project.  You are always a step ahead in the delivery of employment services,” DOLE-RO I Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra said.

Director Lacambra led the ribbon-cutting ceremony together with 6th district board member Noel C. Bince, Umingan Mayor Mike Cruz, Pangasinan SK Federation President Jerome Espino and PESO Manager Alex Ferrer.

The project is literally an airconditioned big bus that has 10 sets of tables and chairs where employers can hold interviews; registration area that can accommodate four people, waiting area with 25 seating capacity; and restroom. All municipalities of Pangasinan can use the facility on a calendar basis.

According to PESO Manager Ferrer, the job fair on wheels intends to intensify the mini jobs fair which is regularly conducted by the provincial government and bring job opportunities closer to the people.

A total of 12 local and overseas employers joined the mobile job fair to offer 2,750 vacancies to both graduate and undergraduate individuals.  Of the 251 registrants, 74, or 29.48%, were hired on the spot (HOTS).

One-stop employment services were also provided by agencies, namely, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, PhilHealth, Social Security System and DOLE. END/Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez with report from Mary Aurea de Jesus, DOLE-EPFO
