DOLE-RO I rolls out emergency assistance for Pangasinan flooded areas

Some 261 individuals from Pangasinan areas worst hit by recent flooding wrought by habagat will benefit from emergency employment, the DOLE-Regional Office I today announced.

Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra said the DOLE-RO I will release P809,100 in total assistance under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) for the identified beneficiaries.

He said the amount will cover the wages of the TUPAD workers who will be receiving P310 daily and will be engaged for 10 days in the clearing, cleaning and rehabilitation of their communities.

“This emergency employment is our contribution to the rehabilitation of the gravely affected areas being done by the provincial government of Pangasinan and other agencies,” Director Lacambra said.

He said the wages that will be received by the beneficiaries will serve to cushion them against the devastating effects of the recent calamity on their sources of income and properties.

The Regional Director said the program will be implemented in Mangatarem, Lingayen, Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, Dagupan City and Rosales.

The provincial government has declared the entire province under state of calamity after damage to agriculture and infrastructure was initially estimated at over P1 billion.

More than 10,000 families or 43,334 persons were affected by flooding, according to the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. END/ Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez with reports from Mhel Gaspar, DOLE-WPFO; Panfilo Dioquino, Jr., DOLE-CPFO, and Mary Aurea de Jesus, DOLE-EPFO
