Four labor issues settled in one day

The DOLE-Regional Office I has scored the most number of resolved labor disputes in one day by a single field office for this year.

This was after the Ilocos Sur Field Office successfully settled the monetary claims of four workers on August 7, 2018 through the Single Entry Approach or SENA.

Reynel Pilien received the amount of P40 thousand separation pay from his former employer through the assistance of ISFO Head and SENA Desk Officer (SEADO) Emmanuel Hagad.

Darwin Raquel and Marlon Tallar received P15 thousand each from their former employer as payment of their 13th month pay.  Jimmy Ancheta was accorded his monetary benefit amounting to P107,641.53 for his salary, 13th month pay and cash bond.  All three issues were resolved by SEADO Charity Ubilas on the same day.

Citing report from the ISFO, DOLE-RO I Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra said the total monetary settlement of P177,641.53 is so far the field office’s highest recorded settlement in terms of amount in a single day for the year.

“Congratulations to the ISFO team for the hard work they put into their task of protecting the rights of workers within their jurisdiction,” Director Lacambra said.

One item in the labor and employment agenda of Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III is to have a labor dispute resolution system that ensures just, simplified and expeditious resolution of all labor disputes, the Regional Director said.

The SENA is an alternative resolution of labor issues arising from employer-employee relations to prevent them from ripening into full blown cases.  Under the approach, all labor and employment disputes undergo a 30-day mandatory conciliation-mediation process to effect settlement among the contending parties.  END/Arly Sta.
