Ailing seafarer gets P2.1 million in total benefits through SENA

A former seafarer who is in dire need of huge amount for his medical needs has just been accorded his monetary entitlements amounting to P2,146,000.

This was after the Ilocos Sur Field Office of the DOLE-Regional Office I successfully settled the worker’s claim in a single day under the Single Entry Approach or SENA.

The SENA is an alternative mode of dispute resolution where parties undergo a 30-day mandatory conciliation-mediation with the end in view of arriving at amicable settlement of their labor issues.

Regie, a seafarer for three years, is currently confined at the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center, Batac, Ilocos Norte due to an illness described as Squamous Cell Carcinoma of External Auditory Canal.

It was his sister and representative Brendalyn Cagdan who filed a request for assistance with the ISFO on October 22.  Brendalyn was assisted by SENA Desk Officer (SEADO) Charity Ubilas. Through the latter’s intervention, Regie’s former employer agreed to pay his monetary benefits.

Brendalyn expressed gratitude on behalf of Regie for the assistance extended, saying that the amount will be very useful for the various medical treatments of his brother.

“I am truly grateful to the DOLE for the efficient service.  May you continue with your good work,” Brendalyn said. END/Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez with report from DOLE-ISFO
