541 HOTS on Labor Day

Charmaine de Guzman, 21 years old, landed her first job as sales consultant at a known retail store in the country during the Labor Day jobs and business fair in Urdaneta City.

The Management Accounting graduate said she was still in the venue when she received the call from her future employer.

“Po? was all I was able to say when they told me I was hired”, she recalled. She has until May 8 to complete the documents required for her employment in the company.

Charmaine is among the 541 jobseekers who got jobs immediately after trooping to the three job fairs which highlighted the 2019 Labor Day celebration in Region 1.

The job fairs were organized by the DOLE-Regional Office I, local government units through Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs), local and overseas employers and other government agencies.

DOLE-RO I Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra said the total hired-on-the-spot (HOTS) is about 28.83 percent of the 1,814 jobseekers who registered.

Three job fairs were held at the Robinsons Place, San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte; Magic Mall, Urdaneta City, Pangasinan and Pangasinan PESO compound, Lingayen, Pangasinan, making 28,153 jobs available.

A total of 22,863 local and 5,290 overseas employers converged at the different job fair areas to offer the vacancies under one roof, sparing the jobseekers from too many expenses.

“We extend our appreciation to those who lent their support to our job fairs. Our collaboration resulted in increased employment level in the entire country” Director Lacambra said.

The Regional Director also said some 63 individuals were referred to the DTI for business opportunity, as the events also featured business counselling for those who are interested in self-employment.

Aside from employment facilitation, the job fairs featured one-stop-shop services from the OWWA, POEA, PRC, TESDA, RTWPB, NCMB, NLRC, Philhealth, SSS and Pag-IBIG for both jobseekers and workers.  END/Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez
