DOLE 1, 2 and CAR hold joint Regional Career Advocacy Congress

 

The participants consisted of Guidance Counselors; Career Advocates; Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Managers; Resource Persons from the academe and government agencies such as DepEd, CHED, TESDA, PRC, DOST, DTI, NEDA and Bureau of Local Employment, and officials and staff of the collaborating DOLE regional offices. Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong keynoted the event. 

In line with the theme, “PH 4.0: Preparing for Digital Ready Workplace”, the event focused on the Fourth Industrial Revolution (FIR) and its impacts and implications on the labor market, human capital development, social protection, policies, trade and investment and the country’s overall development goals.    

“The FIR is rapidly changing the way we do things. We have to adapt proactively to take advantage of its benefits and protect our workers and jobseekers from its risks and challenges,” DOLE-ROI Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra said. 

Experts and researchers point to the potential that comes with the FIR, especially in terms of increasing industries’ efficiency and consumers’ convenience. They also see that rapid advancements toward replicating human actions and intelligence could also displace a large number of workers and businesses, particularly those undertaking routine tasks. 

“Our efforts are directed towards the development of our human capital by investing in people’s capacity and strengthening mechanisms to ensure that our jobseekers and workers benefit from the digital era,” Director Lacambra said. 

Specific topics discussed during the RCAC were the results of JobsFit 2022: Sneak Peek to What’s Next; Technological Change and its Impact on Education and Labor Market Information; PH 4.0: Preparing for Digital Ready Workforce (Academic Perspective); Role of Career Guidance in Shaping the Future of Workplace, and Philippine Policies and Interventions in Developing the Future Workforce. 

According to the World Economic Forum, developments in genetics, artificial intelligence, robotics, nanotechnology, 3D printing, biotechnology, and other technologies have ushered in the FIR. Smart systems—homes, factories, farms, grids or cities—are expected to tackle many problems from supply chain management to climate change.
