DOLE-RO I helps 242 laid off workers

The La Union Field Office of the DOLE-Regional Office 1 has reported to Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra that it was able to assist 242 laid off workers of Lamonte Sales and Merchandising Specialist, Inc. after the company ceased operations on July 31 this year.

Upon the instruction of Director Lacambra, the DOLE-LUFO formed a Quick Response Team (QRT) to witness Lamonte’s announcement of cessation of its operations and extend the necessary assistance to the affected workers.

To accord the workers their monetary benefits, the DOLE-LUFO conducted Single Entry Approach (SENA), an administrative approach that provides accessible, speedy, impartial and inexpensive settlement of labor issues through a 30-day mandatory conciliation-mediation.

In two days, an amicable settlement between the workers and Lamonte was reached through the assistance of LUFO Head Veronica Corsino and SENA Desk Officers Delia Chan and Fredderick Gaerlan.

The workers, who are from Regions 1 and the Cordillera Administrative Region, received their monetary entitlements amounting to P3,629,209.17 on October 14 and 15 as payment for their separation pay, Service Incentive Leave (SIL), 13th month pay and other benefits.

The workers were also issued their employment certificates by their former employer.

As of press time, most of the laid off workers were already absorbed by San Miguel Foods, Inc. (SMFI).
