DOLE-RO I trains new PESOs

As it continues to push for stronger employment facilitation network, the DOLE-Regional Office No. I trained newly designated Public Employment Service Office (PESO) managers on November 26-28, 2019 in Baguio City.

DOLE-RO I Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra said some 61 PESO managers were equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively and efficiently perform their functions in job referral and placement, provision of labor market information and implementation of other DOLE programs and services.

“Recent changes in local government units call for the conduct of capacity building for new PESOs who are mostly designated or coterminous with the appointing authority,” Director Lacambra said.

PESOs, he said, ensure that employment facilitation services are made available and closer to jobseekers and other workers.

To maximize their presence at the local level, PESOs are also tapped in the implementation of DOLE programs and services such as Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES); Government Internship Program (GIP); DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP); Career Guidance and Advocacy Program (CGAP); Jobs Fair and Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK); National Skills Registry Program (NSRP)/PESO Employment Information System (PEIS); Labor Market Information (LMI) Framework, and many others.

Republic Act 8759 or the PESO Act of 1999, mandates the establishment of community-based PESOs that are maintained largely by LGUs or non-government organizations (NGOs) or State Universities and Colleges (SUCs).  These PESOs are linked to the Regional Offices of the DOLE for coordination and technical supervision.
