Recruitment activity opens job opportunities for laid off workers

The Eastern Pangasinan Field Office of the DOLE Regional Office I, in cooperation with the Public Employment Service Office of Tayug, Pangasinan, facilitated the conduct of a local recruitment activity of a large grocery outlet.

With massive business closures and worker layoffs threatening the entire world due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the opening of SM Savemore-Supervalue, Inc. is a positive development not only for the said LGU, but also for its neighboring areas, DOLE-ROI Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra said.

“While we cannot discount the adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on employment, rest assured that the DOLE and its partners will remain steadfast in delivering job facilitation services for workers,” Director Lacambra said.

The company has at least 100 job openings for its Tayug branch and more vacancies in its other branches for applicants who are willing to be assigned outside Region 1, according to Jean Jasmin Galsim, Human Resource Supervisor.

Twenty-one-year-old Bernadeth Halog of Sta. Maria, Pangasinan was among the jobseekers who were hired on the spot during the recruitment activity.  Bernadeth was laid off by her previous company in Angeles, Pampanga due to serious financial losses.

Arvin Caesar Rivera, 24 years old, and a resident of San Nicolas, Pangasinan, was also hired as stock clerk after being retrenched due to similar reasons.

Interview of other applicants will be done via zoom or other virtual meeting platforms and through phone.

Since the company building is under construction, the local recruitment activity was conducted at the municipal hall of Tayug.  Health and safety protocols such as physical distancing, wearing of face masks and provision of sanitizing agents such as alcohol were ensured during the activity.

“We are optimistic that our economy and employment situation are going to be better with the opening of new companies and resumption of business operations in the region,” Director Lacambra said. END/Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez with report from Roma Madrigal, DOLE-EPFO
