DOLE-RO I awards over P4-M TUPAD projects in 4 Ilocos Sur towns

The DOLE-Regional Office I awarded over P4 million worth of Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) projects to benefit 900 informal sector workers in Ilocos Sur on December 4 and 5.

Regional Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra led the awarding of the TUPAD assistance which is still part of the DOLE’s contribution in the implementation of recovery and rehabilitation measures under RA 11494 or the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act (BAYANIHAN 2).

Checks worth P1,898,560; P1,060,800 and P968,320 were awarded to Sta. Cruz, Suyo and Alilem, respectively, on December 4 to benefit 722 workers.

The town of Lidlidda, on the other hand, received P968,320 for 178 beneficiaries on December 5.

TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be done.

For the four recipient towns, the beneficiaries will be engaged in the sanitation or disinfection of barangays for a duration of 16 days.  Despite working for four hours a day, the workers will still be receiving P340 which is the highest prevailing minimum daily wage rate in Region I.

Aside from their wages, the beneficiaries will also be provided with personal protective equipment (PPEs), group personal accident insurance and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) orientation through the distribution of leaflets.

Covered under the program are the self-employed with elementary occupations and unpaid family workers such as drivers, vendors, fisherfolk, crop grower, home-based workers and other skill-based workers.  It shall, however, prioritize informal sector workers who applied on or before April 30, 2020 but were not assisted under the TUPAD Barangay Ko, Bahay Ko (#BKBK) Disinfection/Sanitation Project and TUPAD as post-enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) intervention.

The projects will be implemented in partnership with the four LGUs and Ang Probinsyano Partylist Representative Jose “Bonito” Singson, Jr., Director Lacambra said. END/Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez with report from Sherwin Keith T. Abalos, DOLE-ISFO
