DOLE-RO I releases over P3-M for startup livelihood of Bacarra residents
The DOLE-Regional Office I awarded  P3,313,577 worth of livelihood assistance to Bacarra, Ilocos Norte to fund the individual livelihood projects of the town’s 194 residents.
Representing Regional Director Evelyn R. Ramos, DOLE-Ilocos Norte Field Office Head Susan Maynes led the awarding of the livelihood assistance to Mayor Fritzie De La Cruz-Gapasin on March 1 9, 2021 at the municipal civic center.
RD Ramos said the livelihood is under the Kabuhayan Starter Kit (KSK) project which enables the beneficiaries to quickly engage in self-employment activities.
“The KSK is a package of services consisting of skills trainings, start-up kits, business counseling, technical marketing assistance and one-year GSIS insurance coverage,” she said.
The beneficiaries are low wage earners and seasonal workers who graduated from TESDA’s Community-Based Training for Enterprise Development courses, namely, crop production, building wiring installation and maintenance, beauty care and hairdressing, animal production and backyard cattle raising.
“I commend the LGU of Bacarra for another endeavor that will help our vulnerable workers become resilient in the face of the ongoing global crisis,” the Regional Director said.
Starting 2007, the LGU of Bacarra, DOLE-RO I and other government agencies have been in a collaborative effort to stimulate sustainable growth by investing in skills trainings of residents, engaging them in livelihood and enhancing their employability.  Other agencies such as TESDA, DTI, DA, DOST, DAR and the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte also support the program to achieve the goals enshrined in the Millennium Development Goals on Gender Equality, Universal Education, Global Participation and Environmental Protection.
To support the project, the LGU donated P471,543, while beneficiaries’ counterpart amounts to P393,120.
The turn-over of livelihood check was followed by the awarding of plaques for 2019 Regional Best Performing Public Employment Office (PESO) and 2019 Regional Best Performing PESO Manager to the LGU of Bacarra and PESO Manager Clemente Galiza, respectively. Both were Region I’s nominees for the 2019 National Best PESO competition.
“What the LGU of Bacarra has accomplished is a proof that grassroots support is crucial in achieving sustainability of our development and employment programs,” RD Ramos said.
Also present during the awarding rites were LGU Department Heads and Janelyn Martin, DOLE-INFO Livelihood Focal Person. END/Arly Sta. Ana-Valdez with report from Leonavella Dadiz-Duldulao, DOLE-INFO
