DOLE1 Notes 143 HOTS, 320 Near Hires in 2021 Labor Day Job Fair

The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office I (DOLE ROI) has registered a total number of 143 individuals who were Hired On the Spot (HOTS) and 320 Near Hires during its 2021 Labor Day Job Fair on May 1-2, 2021.

For the first time, the DOLE’s sought-after job fair has been brought online, in view of the standing COVID-19 health protocols, This innovation was realized through DOLE ROI’s partnership with its technology partner, Workbank, a virtual job platform which offered its services for free.

“Through the leadership of Sec. Silvestre “Bebot” Bello III, the DOLE leveraged on the power of digital technology as we continue to uphold our mandate on employment facilitation,” Regional Director Atty. Evelyn R. Ramos said. “We did not let the restrictions set by the pandemic hinder us from helping people find the job they need and they deserve,” she added.

The DOLE RO1 posted 2,679 job vacancies - 2,216 are local and 463 are overseas job orders - pooled from 91 employers, As the fair closed at 11:59pm on May 2, there were 10,100 jobseekers who registered in the platform.

Most of the HOTS were hired as government interns by government employers; and as sales agents, customer service representatives, cashiers, service crew, and administrative staff by private sector employers.

Aside from the job vacancies, the jobseekers also enjoyed online help desk services from various government agencies through live chats. These include DOLE, OWWA, POEA, TESDA, DTI, PAG-IBIG, PHILHEALTH, CSC, PRC and SSS.

The online fair also featured the “Kabuhayan” and “Negosyo” components, in line of DOLE’s convergence efforts with the DTI. Jobseekers were given the opportunity to explore other personal economic pursuits such as livelihood and entrepreneurship.

“Our role on jobs generation and facilitation becomes all the more important nowadays,” RD Ramos said, as she urged her staff to closely conduct follow-throughs for the HOTS and Near-Hires, to monitor their actual appearance at work. Likewise, the DOLE RO1 shall also persistently coordinate with participating employers, whose job postings remain unfilled.

The unfilled job vacancies are still up for grabs in the Workbank platform until May 30, 2021, to cater to additional job seekers looking for employment opportunities, through the link bit.ly/wb-dole-1.  END/Justin Paul Marbella
