DOLE Distributes P710,600 wage to 209 TUPAD Workers in Dagupan City

The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office I (DOLE ROI) distributed the total amount of P710,600 as payment for the wages of the 209 workers under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD), an emergency employment program of the DOLE.

DOLE ROI Regional Dir. Atty. Evelyn R. Ramos spearheaded the payout ceremony on May 7, 2021 at the City Plaza, Dagupan, Pangasinan, witnessed by Dagupan City Government officials led by Mayor Marc Brian Lim, SK Federation Pres. Joshua Bugayong, City Administrator Vladimir Mata, and PESO Manager Jocelyn Siapno.

The 209 TUPAD workers were informal workers, tricycle drivers, fisherfolks, vendors and construction workers in Dagupan City. Each of them received P 3,400 as their wage for the 10-day community clean-up service from April 24 to May 3, 2021.

Aside from the DOLE, other government agencies also extended their aid to the beneficiaries. The Office of Senator Bong Go gave out freebies, medicines, PPEs, and raffle items to the beneficiaries.  The Department of the Social Welfare and Development led by Usec. Aimee S. Torrefrancia-Neri also came in to give the 209 beneficiaries P3,000 each, under its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program. They also distributed emergency kits and food packs. Meanwhile, Department of Trade and Industry Asec. Flor Amate introduced the DTI’s livelihood programs which the TUPAD workers can likewise avail.

“We are grateful for opportunities like this where various government offices can converge and provide all possible areas of public service,” said DOLE RD Ramos, as she reiterated Labor Sec. Silvestre H. Bello III's persistent call to DOLE beneficiaries to become good stewards of the government aid. “Our services in the government become even more meaningful if our partners in the community also do their part,” she said.

The TUPAD program for the 209 workers in Dagupan was made possible through the coordination of Dagupan SK Fed. President Bugayong with DOLE Asec. Victor Del Rosario, who are both active youth leaders.

Also present during the event were Assistant Regional Dir. Honorina Baga, Mediator-Arbiter Atty. Amado Gasmin, and DOLE Central Pangasinan Field Office Personnel led by Chief Agnes B. Aguinaldo. The minimum public health standards were strictly enforced during the ceremony. END/Justin Paul Marbella, with reports from Mica Quinto.
