On Independence Day, DOLE Releases P 4.7M for TUPAD workers in Bauang and Tagudin

Symbolic of its commitment to help liberate informal workers from the chains of economic crisis, the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office I (DOLE ROI) released the total amount of P 4,758,500 as wage to informal workers in Ilocos Region, during the celebration of the 2021 Independence Day on June 12, 2021.

Around 1,200 informal workers from Bauang, La Union and Tagudin, Ilocos Sur were beneficiaries to the Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) Program, as the DOLE ROI held check awarding and payout ceremonies during the celebration of the nation's 123rd anniversary of its sovereignty.

DOLE ROI Regional Director Atty. Evelyn R. Ramos led the awarding of check amounting to P3.4 Million to Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, received by Mayor Roque S. Verzosa, Jr. The amount will benefit 1,000 informal workers in the town, who shall render 10-day community disinfection on June 14-23, 2021. They will receive P3,400 each.

Meanwhile, in Bauang, La Union, DOLE ROI Assistant RD Honorina Baga and Bauang Mayor Dr. Menchie Lomboy-De Guzman witnessed the distribution of wages with total amount of P 451,000 to 82 underemployed/self-employed workers in the municipality. The TUPAD workers rendered agro-forestry services for 16 days, and each of them received P5,500.

Still in Bauang, another 165 low-income workers are yet to receive P5,500 each, after they complete their 16-day service which will commence by end of June. The DOLE ROI awarded the check amounting to P 946,357.50 to LGU Bauang, which the fund the workers’ wages, insurance, and PPEs.

In her message to the beneficiaries, RD Ramos said “we at the DOLE work hard to help the people improve their quality of lives. We appeal to our beneficiaries to become good stewards of this aid from the government. Patuloy lang tayo laban sa hamon ng buhay, sama-sama tayo, tulong tulong tayo para mapaginhawa ang buhay.”

She likewise extended Labor Secretary Silvestre “Bebot” Bello III’s strong commitment to empower workers to achieve economic freedom through DOLE programs.

In his 2021 Independence Day Message, Sec. Bello said, “Sa anumang dagok na ating haharapin, ang DOLE ay mananatiling kaagapay sa pagbangon at patuloy na pag-unlad.” END/Justin Paul Marbella
