DOLE Retools Workers' Orgs in Bolinao, Pangasinan
The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office 1 (DOLE RO1) gathered around 25 representatives of various workers organizations and unions in hotels and restaurants in Bolinao, Pangasinan, on June 25, 2021 at Old Rock Resort Hotel, Bolinao, Pangasinan.
The gathering aimed to retool the participants, comprised of management and employee representatives, with the latest updates on labor relations, largely on the adjustments brought about by the pandemic.
Bolinao is a known tourist destination in Pangasinan. It is home to various hotels, resorts and other tourism establishments, which are now transitioning to safe re-opening given the relaxation of travel protocols in the province.  
“Through this training, we at the DOLE RO1 also seek to strengthen our ties with Industrial Tripartite Council (ITC) - Hotel and Restaurant here in Region 1,” said DOLE RO1 Regional Director Atty. Evelyn Ramos.
To engage the active participation of the workers’ groups in the training, Bolinao PESO Manager Guia Ofrancio representing Mayor Alfonso Celeste, and ITC-Hotel and Restaurant in Western Pangasinan Vice President Ronaldi Torres, apprised them with their thrusts on enhancing labor relations in the area. 
DOLE Western Pangasinan Field Office Chief Rhoda Dingle presented the overview of the activity. After, topic discussions were made, namely the Occupational Safety and Health Law by Engr. Edarlin Tadina, Senior Labor and Employment Officer (LEO); Online Union Registration System by Ms. Melodia Picardal, DOLE RO1 Labor Relations Focal; Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009 and 105-Day Expanded Maternity Leave Law by LEO III Mhel Santiago Gaspar; and the DOLE Department Order No. 56-03 by LEO II Marc David Sanchez.  
Moving forward, the workers’ groups in entire Pangasinan shall re-convene later on for a series of dialogues and consultations, and drafting of resolutions to articulate the workers’ needs and concerns in the new normal.
