DOLE TUPAD Benefits 700 Workers in La Union 2nd District

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through its emergency employment program, Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD), provided cash-for-work opportunities to 700 workers in four municipalities in the second district of La Union.

Regional Director Atty. Evelyn R. Ramos led the turnover of TUPAD check amounting to P2,942,500 for LGUs Nagulian, Bagulin and Burgos. Naguilian Mayor Nieri T. Flores and DOLE La Union Field Office headed by Chief Veronica A. Corsino witnessed the turnover.

Meanwhile, in Pugo, RD Ramos led the turnover of the DOLE grant amounting P 946,357.00 to Pugo Mayor Priscilla Martin and PESO Manager Verina Lopez on May 24, 2021.

The amount will fund the wages of low-income marginalized workers in the said towns, with 165 workers in Pugo, 330 in Naguilian, 120 in Burgos, and 85 in Bagulin. Each of them shall receive P5,500 after completing 16 days of service.

The workers will be tapped for various agro-forestry projects such as tree planting, community gardening, and clean-up and beautification.

“The DOLE supports these meaningful undertakings of LGUs on agro-forestry. Through our partnership with La Union 2nd District Representative Sandra Y. Eriguel, we hope to bring significant changes in these communities through our TUPAD program,” said RD Ramos.

TUPAD is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and unemployed poor, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.

Aside from salaries, the beneficiaries were also given micro-insurance premiums and personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure their protection as they deliver their services in the community.  END/Justin Paul Marbella and Vanessa Tria Marie E. Emperador.
