DOLE Region 1 Trains New Sheriffs to Speed Up Enforcement of Labor Writs
The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office 1 endeavors to expedite the enforcement of writs of execution of labor cases, in fulfillment to its mandate to uphold workers’ rights and welfare; and promote industrial peace.
To this end, DOLE RO1 trained a pool of new sheriffs in a one-day training on September 1, 2021 in Riverfarm Restaurant, Baroro, Bacnotan, La Union.
The sheriffs, who are technical officers in the field offices, shall primarily play the role in ensuring the completion of full cycle facilitation of labor cases.
As provided in the DOLE Sheriff’s Manual on Execution of Judgements, DOLE Sheriffs are tasked to serve and enforce the writ of execution in accordance to the Department’s guidelines and ensure full satisfaction of the judgement; and submit reports on the status of executions.
RD Atty. Evelyn Ramos relayed to the new sheriffs that integrity and commitment are key in their roles, as they are indispensable in the DOLE’s mandate to ensure the protection of workers’ rights and welfare in the region.  Atty. Amado C. Gasmin, Chief of the Mediation Arbitration and Legal Services Unit (MALSU), introduced the manual of execution of judgments to let the new sheriffs be familiarized with the procedures.
Mr. Mario Garcia, Captain Sheriff at the National Labor Relations Commission Regional Arbitration Branch 1, presented on the strategies and best practices during the enforcement of writs. END/Justin Paul Marbella.
