It is a new start for Dexter Medina, a working student from Urdaneta City, as he was instantly Hired on the spot (HOTS) during Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office 1’s Business and Jobs Fairs on May 1, 2022, in celebration of the Labor Day.
The 21-year-old jobseeker participated in the event in hopes of landing a decent job. Dexter shared, “I went to the fair to find a job that offers a higher salary and get a better job that will help me save up money.”
Being the eldest among four children in the family, Dexter is persistent to help his parents provide for their financial needs. Thus, working while studying is not new to Dexter. He started working as a crew chef at a fast-food chain when he was in Grade 11. He juggled work and school for three years until he reached college.
Now, the breadwinner has a new job. Through the DOLE RO1’s Jobs Fair, he was hired as a production operator for Add Even Manpower Resources and Solutions Inc.
Aside from helping his family with their daily needs, Dexter also works hard to save up money to go back to school. He is determined to continue his education, and finish his degree in Computer Science where he will be in his second year by the time he will re-enroll.
With the opportunity opened up by DOLE, Dexter is a step closer to fulfilling his dream. He extended his gratitude for DOLE’s program and said, “Thank you for this opportunity. I hope other people like me can also have the opportunity to land better and well-paying jobs. Thank you so much, DOLE.” (by Alyssa Castanares)
